Who is Running Bird?

Zach Osborne

I’ve spent nearly 20 years of in various higher education roles. Initially as a full-time, on-campus staff member, and more recently as a consultant.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with schools serving from 700-50,000 students, both public and private. My experience spans career services, academic advising, study abroad, and academic affairs.

Since making the move from on-campus staff to off-campus resource, I’ve truly enjoyed the opportunity to leverage my experience and focus my energy on making the lives of on-campus staff easier. I recall all of those times I wished I had someone to ‘handle that one thing’ that was on my mind, but out of scope or beyond my resources, and find great satisfaction in being able to fill that need for clients now.

At heart, I’m an educator. I won’t just do the work — I’ll explain it, document it, and make sure you and your team is confident moving forward. My goal? Help people do their best work, without being buried in the backend.

What Does Working with Running Bird Look Like?

Every client is different, with unique needs, priorities, and goals. In recognition of that, we tailor every engagement to best fit your situation.

How Long Will We Work Together?

We can work with you for a day, a week, a year, or on an on-going basis. Some projects and needs lend themselves to a clear endpoint or handoff, and sometimes we can be the most helpful if we stay engaged to assist in an open-ended arrangement.

How Often Will We Talk?

Sometimes we’ll talk a lot - maybe daily or a few times a day. Other times, we may connect once a week or less often. We will set a schedule that makes sense based on your needs and the phase of the project and adjust over the lifecycle of our engagement.

In some cases, we attend regular departmental meetings to report on our progress and get input. In others, we only meet with key stakeholders for focus conversations about our work.

How Will We Communicate?

We have great systems for electronic engagement in place, so it’s likely that most of our communication will be via email, phone, and video calls. Want to bring Running Bird to your campus in-person - we can do that too!

What Does Getting Started Look Like?

We start with an initial conversation. The goal of that conversation is to get a high-level understanding of your needs. Using this information we gather, we will work to put together an initial proposal detailing how we can help. If your needs are more complex or involve additional key stakeholders, we may need to have one or more follow up conversations in order to get all the info we need to put together a proposal for your review.

Once we’ve got our proposal together, we’ll present it to you and address any questions you have. Our goal is to come up with a plan that will address your needs - leveraging the resources we have to offer in a form that will work for your organization, budget, and timeline.
